Overtaking, Turning and Reversing

Passing poses risks. Consider the necessity of passing and refrain from doing so if unsure of safety.

Typically, pass on the right, but on a one-way road, passing is permissible on either side.

Exercise caution when passing on a divided highway, as the right lane may be utilized for right turns.

If on a bustling road and realizing you are:

  • Traveling in the incorrect direction
  • Positioned in the wrong lane at a congested intersection

Keep proceeding until you locate a safe area, such as a tranquil side street, where you can execute a U-turn or turn around safely.

Avoid reversing

  • for an extended duration beyond what is required
  • from a side street onto a main road.

When reversing into a side road, thoroughly inspect road and traffic conditions in all directions (if necessary, you can remove your seat belt while reversing for improved visibility). If unsure of safety, exit the vehicle and inspect before initiating the reverse. The primary risk to passing traffic arises when the front of your vehicle swings out.
