If a warning light illuminates on your vehicle’s instrument panel while driving, promptly stop (as soon as it is safe to do so) and address the issue.
In the event of a tyre burst or puncture while driving:
- Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel.
- Decelerate slowly or coast to a stop at the side of the road.
If your vehicle breaks down on the motorway, attempt to reach the next exit or service area. If this is not possible, transition into the left-hand lane and maneuver your vehicle onto the hard shoulder or into an emergency area as safely as possible.
On the hard shoulder, aim to stop just beyond an emergency phone and as far left as feasible, away from traffic. Leave sufficient space to exit the vehicle using the nearside door.
If you cannot exit your vehicle, immediately dial 999 and request assistance from the police. Alternatively, press the SOS button if your vehicle is equipped with one and ask for police assistance.
If you have mobility difficulties, remain in your vehicle, fasten your seatbelt, activate hazard warning lights, and call 999 to request police assistance.
In the event of a breakdown on a level crossing, evacuate all occupants from the vehicle and move them clear of the crossing. Then, use the provided phone to contact the signal operator. Only relocate your vehicle if instructed to do so by the operator.
