Stopping at an Incident

If you are the first to arrive at the scene of an incident or crash, take the following steps:

  • Stop and alert other traffic by activating your hazard warning lights. Prioritize your safety and avoid putting yourself at risk.
  • Ensure emergency services are contacted promptly.
  • Verify that the engines of any vehicles involved are switched off.
  • Safely relocate uninjured individuals away from the scene to a secure area.

Additionally, if a vehicle involved in the incident is carrying dangerous goods, it will display an orange label or hazard warning plate on the back. Provide details from the label or plate when contacting emergency services. Refer to The Highway Code for illustrations of different hazard warning plates.
