Moving Hazards

Remain vigilant for various road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, large vehicle operators, slow-moving vehicles, motorcyclists, individuals using powered mobility devices, and fellow drivers.

Exercise patience in built-up areas when pedestrians are crossing, avoiding any actions that might pressure them to hurry.

On rural roads lacking sidewalks, be mindful of pedestrians who may be walking along the roadside, potentially approaching from your direction.

Remain vigilant and give cyclists ample space on the road.

  • Understand that cyclists may need to maneuver to avoid obstacles like drains or potholes.
  • Allow cyclists adequate time and space at junctions or traffic lights.
  • Always check for cyclists on your left before making a left turn.

Exercise caution around buses at bus stops.

  • Be mindful that pedestrians may disembark and cross the road.
  • Stay alert as buses may begin moving again, especially school buses.

Be aware of potential challenges posed by high vehicles at certain bridges, which may necessitate using the center of the road to pass underneath.

Stay attentive to other vehicles, particularly motorcyclists, overtaking, and changing lanes abruptly. Maintain a safe following distance if needed.

Exercise patience when interacting with older drivers, who may have slower reaction times.

Familiarize yourself with information signs on the back of certain vehicles, such as road maintenance vehicles or those transporting hazardous materials, to understand their significance.

Exercise caution when considering overtaking:

  • Avoid overtaking if you plan to turn left shortly afterward.
  • Respect signs and road markings that prohibit overtaking.
  • Refrain from overtaking when approaching a junction or if your view ahead is obstructed.
